New to DJing, buying Pioneer CDJ-1000MK3
Monday, July 30th, 2007

Hey all, I’m finally breaking into DJing after being an addict for Dance and Electronic for years. I’ve nearly got enough cash to throw at the CDJ-1000MK3, a DJ staple for apparently great quality and performance, but I’m really lost at what direction to take afterwards. What other equipment should I go for afterwards? And especially how should I break into my turntable?

Do you already have a mixer lined up? If not, maybe save some cash by going with the 800MK-2 and invest the rest in a decent mixer (DJM-400?). As for what to do afterwards, start practicing. Not sure what you know already, but it takes a little while to learn the fundamentals: beatmatching, EQing your mixes etc. Dont cheat and use the BPM displayed on your CDJ’s either, use your ears to get a feel for matching tempos. It might be kinda frustrating, but after a while it will be automatic and your mixes will sound great. Invest in some quality DJ headphones too, 150-200 dollars should get you a nice pair (Denon DN-HP1000s. are a good place to start). Thats some vague stuff, but hopefully it helps, if you have any more specific questions shoot me an email. Enjoy the new stuff!
