i need some new headphones after having my old ones stolen a while ago. i had the sony 500s of something like that. originally i was looking at the pioneer SEDJ 5000s. but was recently shown the roland RH D20s. the pionners are similar to my old sonys. but the rolands are biiger in general and might be better suited for mixing. are there any other headphones in the $120-$150 range i should be looking at?

Headphones are a very personal thing, and it’s important to find a set whose sound you know so you can know what to expect when mixing with them. Not to say that the Pioneer and Roland sets aren’t great, but if you liked and knew well the sound of your old Sonys, you may want to stick with Sony. If that’s the case, I’d suggest the Sony MDR-V700DJ — $149 MSRP ($100 or less street price), Otherwise, take a CD of you own music or your favorite tracks to a shop where you can test out as many pairs as you can and pick your favorite.
